This year's Valentines night was held at Dagger Lane on Saturday 16th February 2008. The event was attended by 95 members & their guests. The guests gathered from 7pm for the scheduled start time of 7.30pm. Unfortunately at 7.20pm the building was plunged into darkness by a power cut. The fault was a major one requiring part of Dagger Lane to be dug up; this would be attended to the following morning. With only ten minutes before the meal was due to be served the kitchen staff were frantically lighting candles to provide enough light to complete the job. The tables were already candle lit so the power cut added to the romantic atmosphere created. The waiters and waitresses carried out their duties with aplomb and the kitchen staff coped admirably under difficult circumstances. There were two drawbacks to the power cut; the disco had to be cancelled and the chocolate fountain stopped working. Following the meal the raffle was drawn before members and their guests retired to the bar area for a good old fashioned chin wag. The evening raised £293. |
