The Lodge and Chapter of St Michael 7833 have regular social events throughout the year. Some are formal, others informal. The Ladies are invited to come along, as well as family, friends and non-Masons. Check the Diary page for forthcoming events!

Regretably, the covid pandemic has stopped most of our social gatherings over the past two years and reports are consequently sparse, but it is hoped that things will pick up in 2023: Watch this space!

                                   ~December 2022~

From Eddie Wildman, Guest Organist for the Lodge of St Michael.

Under the mastership of W Bro Peter Stokes, the Lodge of St Michael 7833 enjoyed a brilliant Christmas festive board following a short meeting upstairs. I had arrived early and found the Steward, W Bro Shaun Rennison laying out the cutlery for the tables; superbly organised, he had everything planned to the last detail. It was impressive, the first post-covid opportunity to celebrate the festive season in the traditional manner for this Lodge. Brethren began to arrive with their ladies and guests, and the former convened upstairs promptly at 6:30 for a brief meeting, which included a joining member being admitted and a promise of another member in the near future. The Almoner's and Charity Steward's reports showed the Lodge to be a caring Establishment, looking after its widows as well as the health of the Brethren. The Secretary spoke of W Bro J S Broughton's field promotion to PPSGW in the Province of Cheshire and greetings were given.

Downstairs there was already an atmosphere of merriment as the ladies were enjoying a get-together. The bar was busy! The Brethren joined the ladies and guests and went into the dining hall for dinner. This was excellent; Roy the Chef had excelled himself. Christmas crackers were pulled, and the diners attempted to score in the Christmas Quiz provided by Bro David Broughton. Carol singing followed, led by W Bros Terry Lynn and Eddie Wildman, and W Bro Michael Price of KIngston Lodge sang a solo verse of "Silent Night" which was much appreciated.  The inevitable performance of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" was undertaken with great enthusiasm. A raffle followed, after which all present joined hands in "Auld Lang Syne." The evening ended officially at 10:30, the Worshipful Master thanking everybody for coming. It had been a splendid evening, and I thank the Lodge of St Michael for reintroducing the old standards and providing such a good time for everyone.

Heaven smiled over Elloughton and the rain held off for the Garden Party at the home of Carol and Shaun Rennison on Sunday 12th August. Fifty-five adults and nine children attended: it was a lovely afternoon, with the Bucks Fizz, the Shooting Range, the Cake Stall and much more. The January Lodge Meeting of the Lodge of St. Michael fell conveniently this year on Burns Night. The Worshipful Master seized on this opportunity to arrange a traditional Burns Night Supper to celebrate the Bard of Ayrshire complete with Haggis and the sound of swirling pipes.

The address to the Haggis was given by Bro. John Watkins and the Selkirk Grace by W. Bro. John Stead who had also dressed the room for the occasion. The Piper played as the Brethren ate their Neeps and Tatties and "sipped" Scotch whisky.

The evening was well attended with many visitors. The Brethren formed a Masonic chain at the end of the evening for the singing of Auld Lang Syne as is customary at the Lodge of St. Michael.

 Christmas Lodge ~ Thursday 15th December 2016

The Lodge of St. Michael's Christmas Lodge had a distinctly Spanish feel to it this year as the Worshipful Master W Bro Antonio Jose Ramirez Jimenez lead the singing with his compatriots of a "traditional" (arr. ERW) Spanish Christmas song "Fum, Fum, Fum" (Fun, Fun, Fun)........ and it was! The audience being encouraged to join in the chorus.

The Mason Family returned this year as Beryl & Frank, Granny Trump & Edwin, suffering power cuts and failing to complete their Blue Peter Advent Crown during a harsh British winter, reminisced about their summers in Spain where they had made their ways by various means and with predictably disastrous and windy consequences.

A selection of Christmas Carols & Songs were sung by all before the traditional 12 days of Christmas finale with the WM starring as the Spanish Partridge in a Spanish Pear Tree.

Garden Party ~ 26th July 2015
The first social event of  W. Bro Frazer's year was a garden party hosted by the WM and his good lady Maureen at their home in Kirkella. Being a typical British summer; It rained.....and rained.....and rained. This did not dampen the enthusiasm of the large number of friends, family, ladies and Brethren who attended. A fantastic buffet had been prepared during the morning and while some chose the comforts of the lounge most braved the elements and congregated under the gazebos in the garden. The beer tent proved popular but it was the Tombola tent that was packed to the rafters as a steady stream of punters attempted to win the many prizes up for grabs. A substantial sum was raised during the course of the afternoon. A big thank you to all who helped with, and supported, this very successful event.

Christmas Lodge ~ Thursday 19th December 2013

The December Lodge meeting was traditionally brief, so that the Brethren could join their ladies and non-Masonic guests for the Christmas entertainment at the festive board. The Worshipful Master, aided by Nick, the barman, and Eddie, who had been playing the organ for the Minerva Chapter meeting earlier that evening, set up the tables the night before. The colour scheme was, of course, red and green, and John had supplied crackers, candles and poinsettias along with the festive-themed napkins. Places were set for seventy-six, the tables organised in such a way that all could see the Daggards entertainment following the meal: Christmas Day with the Mason Family, which was being repeated by popular request.

The Worshipful Master, John Wheeldon, joined fellow Daggards Terry Lynn, Richard Theaker and Eddie Wildman for the performance, which was received with acclamation, after which everybody joined in singing traditional Christmas carols and songs, directed by that operatic Daggard, Malcolm Sydney Ladd. Festive headgear was worn by the Wardens and other Brethren, though none so eccentric as John Stead's singing chapeau. The "formal" entertainment concluded with everybody singing The Twelve Days of Christmas, but many people lingered long afterwards, enjoying the ambience of the occasion and a further tipple at the bar. Ladies' Night ~ Saturday 9th November 2013

On Saturday 9th November the traditional Ladies' Night was held at the Masonic Hall, Dagger Lane. It was well attended, and following Bucks Fizz and photographs in the Lodge Room, Ladies, Gentlemen and Brethren dined in style in the banqueting hall below. The Worshipful Master proposed the toast to the Ladies, and in particular to his Lady Rachel. The song to the Ladies was performed by W Bro John C Stead, and the response on behalf of the Ladies was given by the Junior Warden's Lady, Senorita Ana Megias. Rachel gave an eloquent thank you to all present, expressing her appreciation to all those who had been involved in the organising of the event. Dancing followed: the new-laid floor was, it was agreed, a huge improvement on the previous one, and it was not until after midnight that the last couples left the floor. It was a lovely evening. Pictured here are Rachel, the Worshipful Master's Lady, with W Bro John Wheeldon, the Worshipful Master, in the Lodge Room.
